They also both have a Thermo King air conditioning system, a toilet, a fridge and a Bosch entertainment package.
Commenting on the new vehicles, NAT Group MD, Kevyn Jones, said, ‘They are certainly making an impression, turning more heads than any coach we’ve operated before! Our first impressions of them are very good and the drivers love them. With the Elitei, we can offer our customers a higher passenger capacity with the luggage accommodation to match.’

Dodds’ Panther pair

ImageTwo Volvo B9R based Plaxton Panthers have been delivered to Dodds of Troon. They each have 53 Gala seats, a centre toilet, drinks facilities and a full climate control system. The pair are powered by Volvo 380bhp Euro5 engines coupled to I-Shift transmissions.
James Dodds said, ‘We had not considered Plaxton as an option until seeing their products at Euro Bus Expo in October and being impressed by their quality. Our initial impressions were supported by the professionalism in the way Plaxton’s Scottish Sales Manager, Charlie Middleton, put the deal together.’

Another Panther for Drury

ImageGoole based Drury Coaches has added another Plaxton Panther to its fleet. This latest addition is 12.8m long and is based on the Volvo B9R. It features a 380bhp engine matched to an I-Shift automated gearbox, as well as 53 Gala seats and a CCTV system.
Proprietor Richard Wilson said, ‘This maintains our policy of continuous renewal which has paid dividends in attracting new business and helping us retain a solid customer base. Our fleet has been 100% Plaxton for some time, it’s helped us win new business and retain it, and we’ve had excellent service from them. Taking the whole package into consideration – purchase price, running costs and residual values – the Plaxton/ Volvo combination presents a compelling case. The latest Panther is the first executive vehicle we’ve bought new. We’ve always had fully seated coaches in the fleet and they’re popular with many of our private hire customers, but recently we’ve seen demand for executive vehicles from some clients. This gives us another option to offer them and we’re already busy taking bookings for it. The flexibility of being able to easily remove the toilet and increase the seating capacity is a big bonus as well. We’re committed to keeping the business moving forward and we’re proud of the progress we’ve made. Coachmarque was an opportunity to put an official “seal of approval” on what we’ve done and it’s proving a useful marketing tool for the business.’

Sanders grow Cheetah fleet

ImageSanders Coaches of Holt now has eight Plaxton Cheetahs in its fleet with two recently being delivered. The new additions feature 29 Tourismo seats, a dash mounted entertainment package and a Thermo-King air conditioning unit. The body is mounted on a Mercedes-Benz Vario 0.816D 8.5m chassis, fitted with a 156bhp OM904LA Euro5 engine matched to a six-speed manual transmission.

Director Charles Sanders finds the Cheetah ideal for the company’s work with smaller groups, ‘In rural Norfolk, we have a lot of calls from smaller groups for this size vehicle and it suits the local area where not everywhere is accessible to larger vehicles. We are keen to stay with the Cheetah, so took advantage of getting these whilst they were available. We know the product, it’s durable, reliable and holds its resale value. If we need any bits for them, there are no problems.’

Elite i’s for megabus.com

ImageStagecoach owned megabus.com has taken delivery of 11 Volvo B11R based Plaxton Elite i tri-axles for use on its cross-border services linking Glasgow, Edinburgh and London. They each feature 75 Gala seats, an air conditioning system, a centre sunken washroom, CCTV cameras and Volvo’s 11-litre Euro5 D11C engine. Ten more are on order for delivery later this year.

General Manager of megabus.com, Ian Laing, said, ‘We sat down with the Plaxton team to develop a vehicle which offered high passenger capacity without compromising on comfort, and which also offered the luggage capacity we needed. As the design developed we were able to evaluate various features and in the end got exactly the product we wanted. It is a tribute to the Plaxton design team’s flexible approach, and it is good to see the coaches in service and attracting positive comment from our customers and our drivers. The roll-on access for customers in wheelchairs is another plus point. It means they can get on and off with ease, and it dispenses with the complexity of a wheelchair lift and the attendant maintenance requirements.’

Panther enters service with Andrew’s

ImageMainland, Shetland based Andrew’s has taken delivery of a 12.8m Volvo B9R Plaxton Panther. Specifications include 53 Gala seats, a Grammer driver’s seat, a Thermo King air conditioning system, a DVD player, drop down monitors and a front facing camera. The coach’s power comes from a Euro5 D9B 9.36litre 380bhp engine coupled with a Volvo I-Shift automated gearbox.

Operations Director, Morris Morrison, said, ‘The specification of the new Panther is the best there’s ever been, 53 seats and a toilet in a two axle vehicle under 13m is ideal for our needs. There are a lot of subtle improvements over the previous model that make it a more refined product and further increases its appeal to our customers. It does exactly what we expect of it. We get very good service from Plaxton and good deals, we are particularly pleased with the way Plaxton’s Charlie Middleton handled this latest addition to our fleet.’
